Spring Break in Atlanta? Safety Tips for Staycations & Road Trips

Safety Tips for Spring Break in Georgia | Call 678-310-2827 for free consultation.

It’s April, which means that many schools are now going on spring break. While this is a fun and exciting time, it’s still important to be safe. Read Greathouse Trial Law’s blog to learn some safety tips for spring break.

General Safety

Regardless of whether you’re going to the beach or the mountains, flying or driving, you should keep your phone with you. Having your phone will give you a way to contact anyone should you need help and a resource for any questions you may have.

Use the buddy system. Even if you have older kids or teens, it’s still better for them to be in pairs. If you’re traveling with many different people, be sure that everyone has at least one person to whom they are accountable.

Watch your valuables. It may be tempting to leave your stuff for a second, but at that moment, someone else could swipe your phone, keys, wallet, or any other valuables. Don’t take your eyes off of anything important to you!

Traveling Tips

If you are driving, be sure that you avoid driving while tired. Traveling through the night may give you more time on vacation, but drowsy driving is similar to drunk driving. Be sure that you get enough sleep before you get on the road!

When traveling by plane, it’s crucial to get to the airport early. Sometimes going through TSA can take longer than expected, or you may get lost looking for your terminal. Besides, it’s always better to be early than late.

Stay updated on the news surrounding your destination. Some states have eased COVID-19 travel restrictions, but others still have guidelines. Research your destination to see if there are any local rules in place.

Beach Safety

The beach is a popular destination for many spring breakers! When having fun in the sun, be sure to wear sunscreen. A painful sunburn could ruin your vacation, so be proactive about putting sunscreen on yourself and your family.

Swim safely. Many beaches use the flag system, so look for the different colored flags and their meanings. Avoid swimming when you see double red flags or purple flags indicating strong riptides or dangerous marine life.

Beach Warning Flags

Don’t drink and swim. The beach is one of the best places to relax and have an adult beverage. But if you’re drinking, you should avoid getting in the water. 70% of deaths from recreational water activities include alcohol, so sober up before getting in the ocean or pool.

Staycation Tips

Of course, you don’t have to travel anywhere to have a fantastic spring break! There are several fun activities you can do right here in Atlanta. Be on the lookout for any events that may be happening in your neighborhood.

Atlanta also has lots of attractions you can visit. Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, and Centennial Olympic Park are downtown and are fun for all ages. Plan a visit to a local attraction to save money and enjoy your break!

You can also get out in the great outdoors. Atlanta is surrounded by bike trails, campgrounds, walking and hiking trails, and many parks. Plan a picnic, or go bike riding with your family. There are so many ways to spend your spring break!

Nobody wants to be injured on spring break. But if you are, be sure to have a plan. If you are injured on spring break, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Luckily, Greathouse Trial Law is here to help.
