Atlanta Police Charge Driver With Vehicular Homicide After Fatal Downtown Pedestrian Crash

Atlanta, Georgia (June 28, 2026) – Atlanta police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash that occurred early Sunday morning in downtown Atlanta and have charged a driver in connection with the incident.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Auburn Avenue NE and Courtland Ave NE. Officers responded to the scene and found a 50-year-old woman who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway. Emergency personnel pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Investigators identified the driver as Marie Bahindwa, who remained at the scene following the collision. Police have since charged Bahindwa with vehicular homicide as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The vehicle involved was reported to be a Jeep Wrangler.
